Tips to Increase Water Intake at Work

While you were growing up, someone probably told you that you need to drink at least eight glasses of water per day to maintain optimal health. Chances are the person who told you that was wrong.

Today, health specialists can’t decide on the whether you should drink at least half an ounce of water for each pound you weigh or the more logical advice of drink until you are not thirsty. Although there are differing opinions when it comes to the ideal amount of daily water consumption, the one thing everyone can agree on is that most people are not drinking enough.

The best way to remain hydrated is to drink throughout the day. But with our busy schedules, it can be challenging to get enough water, especially while working. Use these four tips to increase your intake of water at work and stay healthier.

Four Ways to Increase the Amount of Water You Drink at Work and Home

Use a hydration app. Okay, it is time to fess up. You think hydration apps are silly. They may be, but they also work. Hydration apps help you measure the amount of water you drink, when you drink it and even remind you when you should take a drink. Basic versions of many of these types of apps are free, but there are paid versions for those who need additional features liking syncing with other apps. Eat hydrating snacks. Man cannot survive on water alone. Instead of having a salty or sugary treat at the office, substitute a snack which adds additional fluids to your body. There is a lot of delicious food which will not only satisfy your hunger pangs but are full of water. A great place to start is eating more fruits and leafy greens. Why not give up your coffee habit and order an organic smoothie as a mid-afternoon energy booster?

Use water enhancers. Go ahead and get creative with your water. No one is going to make fun of you for not drinking it ‘straight.’ Whether you have a preference for store-bought water enhancers like Stur or take a more DIY approach to make your water taste better by adding a fresh slice of lemon, fruit juices or herbs, anything goes. As long as it gets you to drink more H20, it is alright.

Keep plenty of water on-hand at work. The more convenient it is for you to choose water over a different beverage, the easier it will be for you to drink more. Encourage your boss to install a water dispenser with either bottled or filtered water in your office. If it is impractical to install a water dispenser, make sure you stash a few bottles of water in a drawer for those times you are feeling thirsty.
